When you first look for a home in Japan, it is tempting to ask which neighbourhood is “best”. A more useful question is: where do you need to go every day, and how much time are you willing to spend getting there?
Fix your daily destination first
Start with your school, workplace or most-used station, then look along the lines that fit your travel-time limit. Do not rely on straight-line distance. Transfers, the walk to the station and the last train can matter more than kilometres.
Compare door-to-door time
“Eight minutes from the station” does not mean you will be on a train in eight minutes. Include crossings, movement inside the station and rush-hour congestion. Compare every option at the same departure time.
Look at daily life last
Once the route works, check supermarkets, pharmacies, clinics, laundries and how well lit the way home is. Convenience may matter most for a short stay; for a longer stay, imagine groceries, rainy evenings and weekends too.
There is no single best area. The right one is the place that reduces everyday friction while leaving enough room in your budget and routine.
